The Sun

sunThe path connecting Yesod (Foundation) and Hod (Glory) is represented by the Sun Tarot card. This path connects aspects of the Almighty Living God in Yesod with the God of Hosts at Hod. The path is a joyous path, and the images on the tarot card portray depictions of life, abundance, and peace. This path represents the joy a believer might feel after establishing a firm foundation in Christ (Luke 6:8) and looking forward to the coming glory of the God of Hosts (in Hod). This path doesn’t focus on the destruction and darkness that some will encounter on the Day of the Lord, but instead focuses on the peace and security that will come after it.

The Sun Tarot card has the image of a child riding on a white horse and holding a red banner. The child represents Christ; who is God’s son and is prophesied to ride a white horse and lead the armies of heaven (Revelations 19:11-13). The red banner the child holds is representative of Christ’s blood, which will purifies those who follow Him.

Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Revelations 17:16-17 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Revelations 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Psalms 89:3 His seed shall endure for ever and his throne as the sun before me.

Following the Day of the Lord, peace will rule on the earth. The predator versus prey relationship that has existed since the Fall of Man will be removed, and the wolf and the lamb shall dwell together safely and in peace. The glory of God and the light of the Lamb will replace the need for the sun.

Currently, the sun provides us with warmth, light, and aids in the cultivation of food; in the promised Kingdom to come, our needs will be provided for by God. Those who place their faith and build on the firm foundation of Christ can look forward to the paradise to come, but until then, they can be thankful for the many blessings God bestows on us in this current world.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat there of, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Romans 8:20 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.

Followers of Christ do not supposed to be miserable. We are not called to live a life of suffering and want in order to later receive a gift of paradise. There is evil in the world, and we will undoubtedly face some hard times. However, Jesus came so that we would not only have life, but that we would have it more abundantly. Following Christ and living as a Christian should produce a fruitful life. It should be a life of love, rejoicing, and thanksgiving. Christians can look forward to the glory to come, but they should also be thankful for the many blessings God is providing them now.

Because of Original Sin man was cursed to earn his living through hard labor (Geneses 3:19), but we are talk to enjoy the fruits of our labor. They are a gift from God. We may experience some hard times and be disciplined in this lifetime, but we must trust in God and realize that He is working all things together for our good.

The images on the Sun Tarot card provide a sense of peace, love, joy, abundance, and security. There is nothing to be frightened of. The child’s arms are open and inviting, and He is basking in the warmth of the sun – just as Jesus is adored by His father and basks in His love.

Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

2 Peter 1:16-18 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

Matthew 17:2, 5 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light…While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to him.

In the New Testament of the Bible, God is only heard speaking a few times, but when He does, it is to proclaim that Jesus is His son, who He loves, and is well pleased with. At the mount of transfiguration, Jesus shined as the sun and God repeated the message from Christ’s baptism, but this time added that the Apostles should listen to Him. Jesus is the light of the world, and we are instructed to follow Him.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Psalms 20:5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfill all thy petitions.

Psalms 60:4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

2 Timothy 2:3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Jesus is the light of the world, and those who wish to bask in the Glory of God will need to first establish themselves with a firm foundation in Christ. We are to follow Jesus as good soldiers of Christ (1 Timothy 1:18, Philippians 2:25, Philemon 1:2). Christians are to be soldiers following Christ’s banner. By following the God of Armies, Christ’s soldiers will be led into victory, and we will see the Glory of God.

The Moon Tarot card represents the false light, because it was only a reflection of the true light. At the beginning of our spiritual journeys we will only understand in part (1 Corinthians 13:9-11), but as we progress in our journeys, we will find the answers we seek (Luke 11:9). The Sun Tarot card represents the true light that is in Jesus Christ, and symbolizes the time when the sun will no longer be needed, because God and Christ will be our lights. However, before we can follow Christ as soldiers, we must abide in Him as children.

Matthew 18:3-5 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receives me.

Mark 10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter it at all.

1 John 2:28-29 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

The Pillar of Severity contains many examples of God’s judgment, the punishment of sinners, and Christ leading God’s army in a war against evil. However, there is far more to Christ than the warrior avenger aspect associated with God’s wrath. As we seek to serve as soldiers of Christ, we must also humble ourselves and receive the Kingdom of God as a child. We are to follow Christ and emulate His life. God is also our father, and we are to live as Sons of God.

Matthew 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Luke 20:35-36 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Jesus provided us with the example to follow, and He will lead us into His father’s glorious kingdom. We are to humble ourselves and receive the Kingdom of God as a little child; we are not to rely on our own wisdom, but should seek answers from God and follow His son. Through obedience, we become the Children of God (1 John 3:10, 5:2), and joint-heirs with Christ.

Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
When we place our faith in Jesus Christ we become Children of God. At that point we are given the power to become the Sons of God, but to become perfect, we must live by the commandments and follow the example Christ provided us in the Bible.

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

1 John 3:1-3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

To serve God, we must live blamelessly in the midst of the evil in the world. We are to shine as lights to the world, as exemplified in the life of Jesus. By following the precepts in the Bible, we become the Sons of God. We know that paradise awaits us. Though we might not completely understand what we will become, we know that if we have the hope in us, then we must to purify ourselves and follow Jesus.
