The sphere of Chesed has to do with the mercy
that God offers those that are willing to follow Christ, and be obedient to the
commandments. We are able to receive mercy and are spared from facing the wrath
of God through the sacrifice Christ made in the sphere of Tiphareth. Christ
endured the hardships of the world, and overcame it by living a life without
sin; He made the ultimate sacrifice by dying for our sins.
This sphere has to do with the forgiveness and mercy that Christ offers us
(Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14). It is a free gift if we will only accept it
and follow Him. In order for us to follow Him we must be obedient to His
commandments. Love, Obedience, and Mercy are the attributes associated with this
sphere of the Qabalah. The name of God associated with this sphere is EL meaning
the Mighty One.
Isaiah 1:24 Therefore the Lord says, The Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of
Israel, "Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, And take vengeance on My
enemies.
Psalm 50:1-6 The Mighty One, God the Lord, Has spoken and called the earth Out
of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. Our God shall come, and
shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very
tempestuous all around Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, And to the
earth, that He may judge His people: "Gather My saints together to Me, Those who
have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice." 6 Let the heavens declare His
righteousness, For God Himself is Judge. Selah
God is referred to as the Mighty One. This aspect of God represents His
omnipotence. God is a god of judgment and mercy. He shines forth out of Heaven
and will not be kept silent. He will rid Himself of His adversaries and sinners
will face His wrath. He will judge the sinners of the world, but He will have
mercy on His saints who have made a covenant with Him through sacrifice. The
sacrifice spoken of here is the sacrifice the Christ made in atonement for the
sins of the world. The covenant is the agreement in the hearts of the saints to
be obedient to the commandments out of love.
Isaiah 55:3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live;
and I will make an everlasting covenant with you-The sure mercies of David.
Matthew 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins.
Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them
on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Hebrews 9:15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by
means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first
covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal
inheritance.
We are to hear the word of God and follow His commandments in order for our
souls to live. The New Covenant is in the blood of Christ for the remission of
our sins. Along with the washing away of our sins through the blood of Christ,
we are to be obedient to the commandments, which will be written in our hearts
and minds. Christ is from the bloodline of David through His mother Mary, and He
is the one that offers us mercy.
Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He
will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will
rejoice over you with singing.
Isaiah 49:25-26 But thus says the Lord: "Even the captives of the mighty shall
be taken away, and the prey of the terrible be delivered; For I will contend
with him who contends with you, And I will save your children. I will feed those
who oppress you with their own flesh, and they shall be drunk with their own
blood as with sweet wine. All flesh shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior,
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob."
God the Mighty One will save His followers and deliver us from our adversaries.
Before Christ made atonement for our sins we were held captive by the bondage of
sin. Christ is our Savior, Redeemer, and the Mighty One of Jacob. Christ is from
the bloodline of Jacob whom King David is also descended from.
Hebrews 5:8-9 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which
He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal
salvation to all who obey Him
Romans 1:5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to
the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of
Jesus Christ
Romans 6:16-17 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to
obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death,
or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you
were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which
you were delivered.
Jesus was the Son of God, yet He learned obedience through the things that He
suffered. We to will be disciplined by the Lord in order for us to learn
obedience. In obedience to the commandments we will complete the Great Work of
purifying our souls, and will be made perfect. Our perfection comes through the
mercy and salvation given to us through Christ, and our willingness to obey His
commandments. We are to accept Christ sacrifice for us, have God’s commandment
written in our hearts, and obey His commandments from our hearts.
Genesis 22:18 "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
because you have obeyed My voice."
Exodus 19:5-6 'Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My
covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all
the earth is Mine. 'And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy
nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."
We are to obey the commandments of God and keep ourselves holy; in doing so we
will be blessed, and be a special treasure, loved by God.
Leviticus 26:14-18 'But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these
commandments, and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My
judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My
covenant, I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you,
wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of
heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. I
will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those
who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.
'And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times
more for your sins.
Deuteronomy 4:30-31 When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you
in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice (for
the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you,
nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
It is through God’s mercy that He makes all things known to us. By doing so we
are able to make an informed decision whether or not we choose to follow His
commandments. If we choose not to follow Him we will face His wrath. This is
done to discipline us and urge us to change our behavior. If we still choose to
continue in our iniquities then things will continue getting seven times worse.
If we make the decision to be obedient to the commandments of God, then we will
receive His mercy. He will not forsake or destroy us, and He will be faithful in
all of His promises to us.
Deuteronomy 12:28 Observe and obey all these words which I command you, that it
may go well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is
good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 12:32 Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall
not add to it nor take away from it.
Deuteronomy 13:4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep
His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to
Him.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice
of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command
you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the
earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you
obey the voice of the Lord your God.
We receive many promises and benefits that come with obeying the word of God.
Our children will also be blessed and He will hold us as more dear to Him then
all the other nations on the earth. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 provides a large list of
the blessings that you we receive by obeying the commandments. We are instructed
to hold fast to and carefully observe the commandments not adding to them or
taking away from them.
Job 36:11-12 If they obey and serve Him, They shall spend their days in
prosperity, and their years in pleasures. But if they do not obey, they shall
perish by the sword, And they shall die without knowledge.
Jeremiah 7:23 "But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I
will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I
have commanded you, that it may be well with you.
By being obedient to the Lord we will live in prosperity and pleasure, and it
will go well with us.
Hebrews 10:7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come-In the volume of the book it is
written of Me-To do Your will, O God.'
Hebrews 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation
to all who obey Him
John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.
Acts 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey
God rather than men.
Jesus came to the earth to do the will of God, and in doing so was made perfect.
It is through our obedience to Jesus that we receive the salvation and mercy of
God. We are to obey Him out of love. In the sphere of Netzach we discussed how
our love for God may grow and how we can witness the love of God in our own
lives. It is through love that we obey Christ. We love God because of the love
that He has shown us by sending His son to die in our place, so that we might
receive mercy from the wrath we would otherwise have to face.
We demonstrate our love for God and Jesus by obeying their commandments. This is
the only thing we can do to repay them for all of the loving kindness that they
have shown us. Without God we would not even be alive. Living our lives for Him
is a small amount of reciprocity, and it is the least we can do.
1 John 2:3-6 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and
the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is
perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in
Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1 John 3:21-23 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence
toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His
commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His
commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love
one another, as He gave us commandment.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His
commandments are not burdensome.
We can be assured that we know Christ if we are obedient to His commandments. By
obeying the commandments, the love of God will be perfected in us. The fear of
the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10) as we learned at the sphere
of Netzach. When we first begin following God’s commandments it is done in the
fear of the Lord, as we progress we will follow the commandments out of love
(John 14:15). When we follow God’s commandments and live a holy life, we are
made perfect and we will receive God’s love and blessing in our lives.
We are to emulate Christ and walk in the manner that He walked. God’s
commandments are for our own good, and if we follow the advice of our father we
will be successful. We will see the work that God is doing in our lives, and
this will cause us to understand God better, and His love will be perfected in
us. His commandments are not difficult to follow. By obeying the commandments we
will please God and receive His blessings in our lives.
Psalm 31:23-24 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the
faithful, And fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He shall
strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.
Matthew 24:45-47 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made
ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?" Blessed is that
servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to
you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
Revelations 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have
the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
We are to love the Lord. He is faithful and will preserve us. We can trust in
His promises, and have courage and faith in Him. On the day of the Lord everyone
will be judged according to their deeds. We should strive to remain faithful in
all our actions knowing that our rewards will be based on the things we’ve done,
and the kind of lives we’ve lived. By being obedient to the commandments we will
be given the right to eat from the Tree of Life and will be accepted into
Heaven.
Exodus 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The
LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and
truth
Exodus 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My
commandments.
God is gracious and merciful. He reveals all truth to us and is patient with us
allowing us time to work out our salvations. Those who love Him and are obedient
to His commandments will receive His mercy.
Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
2 Samuel 22:26 With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful, and with the
upright man thou wilt show thyself upright.
Psalm 37:26-27 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Depart
from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loveth judgment,
and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the
wicked shall be cut off.
Proverbs 14:21-22 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath
mercy on the poor, happy is he. Do they not err that devise evil? But mercy and
truth shall be to them that devise good.
We are to walk in the manner the Jesus walked. We are to be merciful, and we
will be shown mercy. We are to turn away from evil and live holy lives. In doing
so our children will also receive blessings, and we will inherit eternal life.
If we live according to the commandments we will set a good example for our
children and they too will be blessed because of our actions.
Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and
glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of
hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down
from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of
turning.
Psalm 91:14-16 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver
him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon
me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him,
and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
Psalm 116:1-2 I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my
supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call
upon him as long as I live.
Psalm 145:20 The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will
he destroy.
The Lord will not withhold any good thing from those that love Him and walk in
obedience to His commandments. Every good gift comes from God, and if we choose
to love and follow God, He will answer us when we call Him, and will deliver us
from our troubles.
Ephesians 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in
love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering
and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord
Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
John 3:15-16 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal
life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
We are to emulate Christ and walk in love. The love spoken of in this sphere of
the Qabalah has to do with obedience to God, and it is through our obedience
that we receive His mercy. Christ died in order for us to have the opportunity
of salvation, but it is only through our obedience to Him that we are able to
accept the mercy that He offers us.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and
will manifest myself to him.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my
words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our
abode with him.
John 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my
love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have
kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
Love and obedience walk hand and hand. It is through these two actions that we
receive mercy and are spared from the Wrath of God. God is love, so by
expressing love and faithfulness, we can experience God in our lives. By obeying
the commandments we please God and He and His son will manifest themselves to us
and abide in us.
Romans 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him.
